Our journey began in June 2016 with a dream. Mama Omi, having just cancelled the Enter The Womb event, had a dream. She found herself surrounded by ancestral women. Some she knew, others she didn't now but felt an attachment to them nonetheless. In her dream, the elders told her "It is time to bring them together." She was given the name Dawtas of the Moon and with that, the Black Witch Convention was born.
With the support of her sisters, a planning committee was formed and the first annual Dawtas of the Moon Black Witch Convention was planned. There was no website or major advertising done with the first convention. We used facebook, blogtalk and word of mouth. We expected 50-75 local women from the DMV area. On October 29, 2016 we were met with over 200 women from all over the United States and even the Bahamas. The 2016 Dawtas of the Moon: Black Witch Convention was a monumental success.
We converged on the Wisdom Book Store Reception Hall in Baltimore, MD on a beautiful Saturday fall morning. We were greeting by smiling faces dressed in their best cultural and witchy attire. They were excited and ready.
